Expectations were high three years ago for the project, a $31 million venture that city officials hoped would help revive an evolving section of the Bayside neighborhood. It was among a handful of ambitious high-rise housing proposals announced in the city at the height of the real estate boom.
A legal challenge from neighbors stalled the project for years, scaring away financing and stealing momentum, until the condo market collapsed. Little remains today aside from a weed-filled lot, liens by contractors and dashed hopes.
The question now, local real estate agents say, is what value investors and developers will see in the remains.
Waterview was the vision of Jeffrey Cohen, a former Washington, D.C., developer. As buzz grew in 2005, investors and would-be tenants began placing deposits for spaces in the 94-unit project, which were to sell from $250,000 to $475,000.
Cohen was caught off guard, however, when the owners of neighboring Back Bay Towers, a 15-story rental complex, filed a lawsuit

The Mississippi State University Extension Service is offering a cotton short course Dec. 1-2 on its Starkville, Miss., campus in the Bost Extension Building. The annual short course will provide information about cotton production with the goal of making growers more productive and profitable.

Topics to be covered include the current farm bill; cotton fertility; marketing; weed control and resistance; and cotton diseases, nematode and insect management. Mini workshops will be offered on identifying damage from unknown herbicides and insect identification.

Speakers for the sessions include David Waide, president of Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation, and Terry Kirkpatrick, a cotton researcher with the University of Arkansas
